Gary Goldsmith has joined the celebrity reality show, which returned to UK television for the first time in six years tonight.

The 58-year-old businessman, and younger brother of Kate’s mother, Carole, attended the wedding of his niece and Prince William at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

During Monday night’s show, presenter AJ Odudu asked Goldsmith: “The nation needs to know, will Kate be watching?”

He replied: “If she is it will be behind a sofa, I guess.”

Gary Goldsmith, who is the younger brother of Kate Middleton’s mother, Carole, made his much-anticipated debut on the revived Celebrity Big Brother.

Gary said he was incensed at racism claims against Kate after writer Omid Scobie alleged that King Charles and the Princess of Wales had asked Meghan and Harry what colour son Archie’s skin might be in a dutch translation of his book Endgame.

Gary added: “It’s absolute bull***t and I didn’t hide my feelings very well when I was offered the opportunity to say something, I just thought I’d say it as I saw it. I did think I caught the tone of nation.

“Kate is 100 per cent not racist, neither is Carole. My family is not racist and for Kate to be portrayed as that is just so far removed from the truth, it’s ridiculous.”

The younger brother of Princess Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, entered the Celebrity Big Brother house on Monday (4 March), as the reality show made a comeback for the first time since 2018.

Speaking of the princess in a teaser that aired before he entered the house, Goldsmith said: “She is simply perfect.”

He added: “First time I met William, Catherine was cooking and William said, ‘Hi, do you want a cup of tea?’ Very normal.”

The uncle of the Princess of Wales said he hopes to show his “fun, caring and devilish” side on Celebrity Big Brother and not the “villain” he is portrayed as.

“We all like to be liked; this is a great opportunity to show anyone who cares the ‘real me’, the fun, caring and devilish ‘me’, not the villain I’m often portrayed in the press,” the 58-year-old said.

“I don’t take instruction or being controlled very well.”

His Big Brother appearance comes after a public court case in 2017, which saw Goldsmith fined and given a community order after admitting he assaulted his wife in a drunken argument in which she accused him of taking drugs.

“I don’t scare easily, and I love a challenge, but this is so far out of my comfort zone I am nervous about the unknown, and if I’m honest, I’m nervous about myself,” he said.

For the occasion, Mordaunt wore a show-stealing teal caped gown, embroidered with a fern motif in a nod to the privy council, designed by luxury ready-to-wear brand Safiyaa. The teal colour, called “Poseidon”, is a reference to her Portsmouth constituency.

The look went viral on social media with royal fans admiring her ensemble. “Who had ‘Penny Mordaunt overshadowing everything’ on their bingo card?” wrote one person on X/Twitter at the time.

The ex-wife of Prince Andrew underwent examinations of the skin in the area around the malignant mole, and learned that it was all “free of cancer”, the Daily Mail has reported, citing her friend.

“She’s undergone further surgery following the melanoma diagnosis to examine the area around the mole that was found to be malignant and her lymph nodes,” said the friend of the duchess, who was not named.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has urged nations to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with those raped during conflicts and to secure for them “justice and holistic redress”.

Sophie denounced rape as “pure evil” and said it was a “tactic of war” and “not just an unfortunate casualty”, during a video address at a conference on conflict-related sexual violence.

The event was held in Ukraine where the duchess said the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine had recorded more than 120,000 incidents of alleged war crimes committed during the conflict with Russia.

In her video address the duchess said: “Survivors here and around the world have spoken out so bravely about their experiences.

“They are the most powerful advocates who remind us all that we must not turn our backs on the horrors of this crime, we must never forget the survivors.

“Rather, we must stand shoulder to shoulder with all survivors to secure justice and holistic redress, and ensure that this crime isn’t an accepted part of conflict.

“Their rights and their voices must be at the heart of all our efforts to consign conflict-related sexual violence to the history books.”

Camilla, 76, is currently the most senior royal undertaking duties as her husband postpones all public-facing engagements as he undergoes treatment for an unknown form of cancer.

She has carried out 13 official engagements since Charles’ diagnosis including hosting Ukraine’s first lady and leading the royal family at a memorial service for King Constantine of Greece at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, last week.
